Tirzepatide is a dual GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist used primarily for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. It works by mimicking GLP-1 and GIP, which regulate appetite, digestion, and blood sugar, leading to increased feelings of fullness, reduced food intake, and slower stomach emptying. Tirzepatide is considered more effective than standard GLP-1 receptor agonists (e.g., semaglutide) due to it targeting two different incretin receptors. Trizepatide injections are prescribed monthly. They are administered as a single subcutaneous injection weekly. Tirzepatide injections are known to help individuals lose up to 10 to 15% of their body weight in addition to healthy eating habits and regular exercise. Consultations are needed to make sure patients are eligible for treatment.
